Description
One of four surviving copies of the 1215 Magna Carta. This copy is one of two held at the British Library. By Magna Carta, the great charter, King John was compelled to promise reforms, including what came to be known as due process for his free subjects. This clause is highlighted.
No free man shall be seized or imprisoned, or dispossessed, or outlawed or exiled or in any way destroyed, nor will we go upon him nor send upon him, except by the lawful judgment of his peers and by the law of the land.
